source of joy

I love mornings and nighttime with my little girl. She is so snuggly and cute and fun...looking up at me with those big blue eyes and playing peepie with morning hair. Today, I left her, still asleep, with Daddy and came to work. It has been a long time since I missed my morning lovin'! I was thinking on the way to work about how much joy she brings me. And how I missed that joy today. Which led me to think about Jody Ferlaak, who lost her oldest child at the age of 4 in a tragic accident. And how the source of my joy cannot be flesh and blood. As Jody says, she had to find faith and comfort in God, not in her circumstances or the people around her--because they can quickly be gone. No matter how sweet and precious Kinley is now, there will come a day when she will let me down as the source of my joy. I pray that that day is a long way away, but I know the teen years are coming :) I have to look heavenward, to the Author and Creator of my faith, my Source of Everything, for a joy that lasts beyond this temporal world. Yes, my child brings me joy. But she is a gift from the ultimate Source of Joy. I hope that you find that joy today...

"...therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions by anointing you with the oil of joy." --Hebrews 1:9

Lisa, thanks for sharing that! You are so right. I heard someone once use the term "God-esteem" instead of "self-esteem". When our worth and our hope and confidence is based on who we are in Christ, we don't have to get our self-worth from others....if your husband or your child or a friend hurts you, yes it hurts, but if your esteem is based on knowing you are a child of God, it doesn't CRUSH you when others let you down!

so true that our joy is only full in God. we can only have worldly happiness from everything else! God is the only one that will never let us down.

btw.. I enjoy your blog!!!
